Mica & Opal

Mica and opal are two materials which I embed in resin to add the colour to my jewellery, each offering distinct properties and visual effects.

Mica is a naturally occurring mineral that, when ground into a fine powder, creates a shimmering, pearlescent finish in resin. It is prized for its reflective qualities, vibrant colour range, and ability to add depth without opaqueness.

Opal, on the other hand, is a precious gemstone known for its unique play-of-colour, which shifts and changes in different lighting conditions. When incorporated into resin, opal adds an iridescent quality that mimics natural gemstones, creating jewellery with a captivating, multidimensional glow.

Unlike mica’s consistent shimmer, opal’s effect is more dynamic and variable with lots of depth in pretty ‘light catching’ colours.

Ultimately, mica is ideal for bold, colourful pieces with a sleek shine, while opal offers a more subtle, luxurious iridescence perfect for elegant, statement jewellery.
